Debbie Zhou
Debbie Zhou is a creative producer, currently working as the assistant to Katie Goodson-Thomas & Pete Spencer over at Searchlight Pictures UK. Originally hailing from the sunny beaches of Sydney, Australia, she landed in London after being awarded the premium stream under Screen Australia’s Enterprise People grant in 2024, where she undertook a Development Producer placement with Fable Pictures (Mr Loverman, Stan & Ollie, Rocks). Selected as a Screen Producers Australia's 2022 Ones To Watch, Debbie got her start in the industry donning her lawyer cap across a number of in-house Business Affairs, Legal and Production roles at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Matchbox Pictures (ex-subsidiary of NBCUniversal).
Other production credits include: producing the BFI Flare-selected short film SPIDERS ON MY LASHLINE (dir. Grace Tan); Screen NSW Producers Attachment on HOUSE OF GODS (ABC/Matchbox) & Associate Producer on 8 NIGHTS OUT WEST (ABC iView). In a past life, Debbie was an OG Letterboxd (Beta) user, which grew her obsessive love for cinema as a teen and led to her side-hustling as a film & theatre critic. Here, she was selected as part of Berlinale Talent Press and Melbourne International Film Festival Critics Campus, and wrote regularly for The Guardian, The Big Issue & Time Out Sydney.
Debbie’s mentor is Juliette Howell.
